Project Labor Agreement Saves $8 Million on School Construction Project - (8/8/2015)
With $8 million remaining in the Scranton School District's construction budget, schools throughout the city may get upgrades.
The district borrowed $60 million four years ago to renovate Kennedy
Elementary, rebuild Whittier Elementary and build Isaac Tripp
Elementary. With those projects coming in under budget, additional
projects will be completed at other schools, directors said at their
work session Monday night.
Those upgrades include:
- New phone systems for West Scranton High, Northeast Intermediate and South Scranton Intermediate.
- New intercom systems for Armstrong and Prescott elementary schools.
- Upgraded ventilation in the West Scranton High School cafeteria.
- Upgrades to security systems at several schools.
- Repairs to windows at Bancroft Elementary and the possibility of a new roof at Adams Elementary.
At the board meeting next Monday, directors are expected to vote on a
resolution to start the intercom and phone system projects through the
state contract system, Superintendent William King said.
