FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TO ALL MEDIA Date: April 23, 2019 PA Building Trades and Their 130,000 Members Announce Overwhelming Support for Clean Nuclear Jobs HARRISBURG, April 23 – The Pennsylvania State Building and Construction Trades Council announced today their overwhelming support for legislation to preserve the state's nuclear power plants and the jobs they provide to thousands of Pennsylvanians. In a unanimous vote, the Council passed a resolution in support of nuclear energy in Pennsylvania. In addition, the organization, which represents over 130,000 construction workers and their families across the state, sent a letter to members of the General Assembly affirming their support for a legislative solution to preserving thousands of good paying, family-sustaining jobs. “Nuclear energy provides tens of thousands of hours of good paying wages and benefits for our members and their families each year," said Frank Sirianni, President of the Pennsylvania State Building and Construction Trades Council. "It also provides countless economic benefits to the Commonwealth and local communities as well as a clean, carbon-free reliable source of energy for over 40 percent of Pennsylvania's electricity. "We are urging lawmakers to pass legislation that preserves our plants and keeps these good-paying jobs here in Pennsylvania.” Currently, the legislature is discussing two bills that would preserve the state's nuclear power plants – House Bill 11 and Senate Bill 510. Welcome to the Pennsylvania Building & Construction Trades Council

Thank you for visiting the web page of the Pennsylvania State Building & Construction Trades Council. The unionized construction industry is very unique, and we are proud to be the organization that leads the way when it comes to standing up for what is best for our members...and what is best for our communities.

Throughout our extremely large and diverse state, it is the members of the Pennsylvania Building Trades that create and maintain the infrastructure in the Commercial and Industrial Industries, which includes office buildings, hospitals, universities, schools, libraries, stadiums, bridges and highways, warehouses, power generation facilities, refineries and chemical plants that make our state such a wonderful place to live and do business. It is these same members of the Building Trades that tirelessly give back to their communities by volunteering their time to organizations that make life better for those less fortunate. We go beyond the call of duty to raise the standard of living for people in our communities.

The work of the unionized construction trades speaks for itself. Our apprenticeship training programs are second to none, and no one can compete with the level of skilled craftsmanship that our journeymen and women bring to the job site.
